Mission and Vision Standing for Assets, Capital, Community, Education, Savings and Success, ACCESS Miami is the next phase of the Mayor’s Anti Poverty Initiative launched in 2001. The initiative unites City resources with similar resources available in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, to offer tools and education that enable City residents to improve their quality of life. To date, ACCESS Miami has established numerous collaborations with successful partners including the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, H&R Block, the Mortgage Bankers Association, and more. ACCESS Miami works with each partner on a one-on-one, customized basis to offer opportunities for residents year-round, including financial seminars, workshops, free tax sites, training, and more. ACCESS Miami’s foundation is made up of four cornerstones: These four cornerstones are the guiding premise to assist both city residents and small business entrepreneurs within the City. Only in its initial stages, programs affiliated with ACCESS Miami have already started combating poverty and assisting working families and the small business community. Over $1,000,000 in micro-loans have been made to small business owners in the City. City-affiliated combined tax preparation efforts over the last two year were the most successful ever, counting with the participation of more than 18,000 residents and saving them over $1,600,000 in fees combined. More than 750 City residents opened IRA savings accounts, individual develoment accounts and debit plus accounts as part of an ACCESS Miami effort. And this is only the beginning. For more information on ACCESS Miami, or to become involved in this initiative please call 311. ACCESS Miami is operated in assistance with the City of Miami’s Department of Economic Development. | |||||
